Paint, paint, and more paint!

Are you planning to join us for Play & Learn on February 18? Be sure to wear your purple Play & Learn t-shirt or clothes that you don't mind getting dirty. We'll be exploring and using child-safe paint in many different ways to help build writing skills and get our children ready to read.

Rainy day adventures

Did yesterday's weather keep you inside? Little Read Wagon and a few adventurous families had Play & Learn at Fairchild Park, accented with some big rain drops! 

Here's an idea for your next rainy day: 

• Provide your child with some paper and water-based markers.
• When your child is done drawing, take the paper outside and lay it down where the rain can fall on it.
• Observe how the rain changes the marks on the paper.
• If the rain just happens to stop before the drawing gets wet, use a spray bottle or eye dropper for a similar effect.

We used water color paper. But, any heavy paper would do.
Even copy or notebook paper would be OK. Just be extra careful or wait until it is dry if you try to move it.

Early Writing Development en español

Is Spanish your preferred language? On June 22 Little Read Wagon will offer another early writing development workshop for early childhood teachers in Spanish. Please view the workshop flyer and enter the registration lottery if you would like to attend. Please note, the entire workshop will be presented in Spanish, and participants will be expected to engage in small group discussions in Spanish.

This year Little Read Wagon workshops for early childhood professionals will focus on early writing development. The idea of writing and very young children often brings to mind scribbles found in unexpected places. Looking for a fun and easy way to help keep your little one's fingers busy this summer? Try this cheap and easy gel writing board: perfect for the car ride, waiting at the doctor's office, or just for when you feel like challenging your child to a game of tic-tac-toe. This gel board is made with items you might already have in your home. So look over the supplies list, raid your bathroom and junk drawer and follow our step-by-step instructions to make your very own gel board. Warning: you may want to make more than one, parents and older siblings tend to like to play with this writing board just as much as the littles.
