Play & Learn Make-and-take

If you are joining us at Woodlawn Community Room this Thursday, please bring an empty, dry, plastic bottle with a cap. We'll be making something you can take home to extend the morning's play with your child. 

Return to Woodlawn Community Room

Little Read Wagon will return to the Woodlawn Community Room (adjacent to the gym) this Thursday, January 21, 9:30-11:00 for some free Play & Learn fun! Join us on any or all of the next six Thursdays for plenty of talking, singing, reading, writing and playing together.

When: Every Thursday, January 21-February 25, 9:30-11:00AM
Who: You and your child/grandchild/neighbor/friend who is not yet in school
Why: Getting ready to read and ready for school is lots of fun!

Each week we'll emphasize one of the five pre-reading practices of Every Child Ready to Read. Adults and children will engage in a variety of activities together such as art, dramatic play, sensory play, and of course lots of books to enjoy. Each child who participates will receive a free book of their choosing to add to their home library.

Yes! Our Play & Learn locations for the rest of July: Woodlawn Lake and Walker Ranch Park!

On Tuesdays, July 7, 14, 21 and 28 the Little Read Wagon team will bring Play & Learn to the Woodlawn Lake Community/Wi-Fi Room. Look for us at the corner of Cincinnati and Alexander, on the south end of the tile-roofed gym.

On Thursdays, July 9, 16, 23 and 30 we will be at Walker Ranch Park. Please access the park from West Avenue. We'll be in the pavilion and playground area.

Programs at both locations begin at 9:00am. This week we'll be exploring birds and bugs.

Summer Play & Learn at the Park

Love was in the air

Last week at Play & Learn we sang love songs and made some lovely paintings. If you missed it or don't quite remember the tune to Magic Penny, you can hear Malvina Reynolds sing the full version of the song here. (At Play & Learn we sang only the first verse and chorus.) Our read-aloud titles were all about colors and bathing.

Play & Learn returns to Woodlawn Wi-Fi Room

Tons of fun this Tuesday!

Tuesday, September 16 is National Playdough Day! Join us as we celebrate with some homemade clay and lots of squishing, squashing, making and mashing! Because really -- you're never too old for playdough! Little Read Wagon will celebrate at the Woodlawn Wi-Fi Room from 9:30-11:30am.

Tuesday, September 16 is also Play & Learn at Lockwood Park! Look for us from 1:00-2:30pm inside the stone building at the corner of Olive and Burnet. We'll also have a few outdoor activities, weather permitting. So be sure to wear your play clothes!

Transportation Station

This month several San Antonio Public Library locations will be offering a special transportation themed Play & Learn program. Check the library events calendar for a complete listing of events.

Summer Early Literacy Fun

All summer long there are a multitude of opportunities for you to help your child build the skills needed for reading by simply talking, singing, reading, writing and playing together. Your schedule may already be full of exciting activities to enjoy with your family. Remember to set aside some time for some early literacy fun!
